To recognize the federal holiday Juneteenth (June 19th), the racial justice group of Agnus Dei Evangelical Lutheran Church is inviting you to hold signs of solidarity on the sidewalk along Peacock Hill Rd across from the church from 3–4 p.m. on Saturday, June 17th. We will meet on the front church walkway at 2:45 to distribute signs and offer a remark or two and then head carefully across Peacock Hill Rd to silently hold our signs. Juneteenth honors the historic moment on June 19, 1865, when General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to issue General Order No. 3, officially freeing the United States’ final slaves. This was 2.5 years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1862. We honor this moment building upon the decree of the Declaration of Independence that freedom is for everyone within the United States. May it be so. Please join us.
